Fun things to do in North Tacoma
North Tacoma is the area that encompasses some of Tacoma's most popular neighborhoods. Neighborhoods like Old Town, Ruston, Stadium District, North Slope Historic District, Proctor District, and University of Puget Sound Neighborhood are all part of the Tacoma's North End. North Tacoma has that small-town feel without being too small—the charming community is made up of several smaller neighborhoods, each with their own unique restaurants, shops and local conveniences. Getting around is easy—the area is walkable (think tree-lined streets with pedestrian-friendly sidewalks) while also offering plenty of street parking. Below is a list of fun things to do in the area. Regardless of your age, lifestyle, or budget North Tacoma has it all!
6th Ave:
6th Ave is a cross-town avenue in Tacoma, Washington, which throughout a large portion of the city, provides the division between the north and south numbered streets.Electric truly defines this district with its coffee shops, doggie daycare, music and record stores, lumber yard, tattoo parlors, custom jewelry store, fast food and fine dining restaurants. Sixth Ave is a hot spot at night with quality musical entertainment, local clubs and a wide array of dining choices. The Ave is an area you don't want to miss day or night. 6th Ave is home to some of Tacoma’s best known retailers and restaurants, a few of which have been featured on the Food Network. A mix of history and attitude create this unique and inviting neighborhood that you're sure to remember. Start the day with a cup of coffee at one of the locally owned coffee houses, shop all afternoon, and end the evening with a sumptuous dinner and entertainment. 6th Ave has something for people of all ages and walks of life.
Proctor District:
The Proctor District is home to many unique, family owned small businesses.There are many restaurants including Europa Bistro, East West Cafe, Pomodoro, La Fondita, Knapps and Pour At Four.Proctor has a lively farmers' market, the second largest in the city, which runs from the last weekend in March through the second-to-last weekend in December on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Kandle Park:
Tacoma's Outdoor Pool is not just any pool …it's the first wave pool in Pierce County, and one of only a handful in Washington! The pool features a gradual beach-like entry, so it’s easy for people of all ages and abilities to get in on the action. A separate shallow tot pool and sprayground ensure a fun time for the whole family. Another amazing feature Kandle Park has to offer is that you can bring in your own food!
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium:
The Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (PDZA) is a combined zoo and aquarium located in Tacoma, Washington, US, owned by Metro Parks Tacoma. Situated on 29 acres (12 ha) in Tacoma's Point Defiance Park, the zoo and aquarium are home to over 9,000 specimens representing 367 animal species. The zoo was founded in 1905; the aquarium was founded in 1935 near Commencement Bay and relocated within the zoo in 1963. Both are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Ruston Way Waterfront:
This two-mile long scenic waterfront with panoramic views of Commencement Bay is a great place for walking, jogging, rollerblading and fishing. Scattered along the waterfront are a mixture of locally and corporate owned restaurants. Fun for the whole family, you can spend all day there and not get bored!
