Burien is a fairly new city having been incorporated in 1993. The city was formed from homes being built around Lake Burien. In 2017, the city of Burien finished construction and development of their downtown area. You can now find many retail stores, starter homes, high-end houses, condos, apartments, a retirement home, and a huge library with underground parking.
The city of Burien consists of nearly 35,000 people with over 14,000 houses. Burien is part of the Highline School District, which is quite large and also serves the cities of Des Moines and SeaTac. The schools located within the city of Burien include 1 high school, 1 middle school, and 7 elementary schools.
This gorgeous stretch of land that reaches almost 180 acres is made up of both forests and beaches. There is over 2,000 feet of coastline bordering the edge of the forest, which is home to many different bird species including eagles and owls. The park includes amenities such as picnic shelters, barbeque grills, restrooms, and walking trails.
Highline Heritage Museum
This historical society displays several hundred thousand 3D objects, photos, films, and documents that reflect the history and culture of the region. Some exhibits that are especially interesting include Oral History Inventory, Scrapbooks, and The Highline Times Microfilm List.
Burien Off Leash Dog Park
This large fenced in park is very popular among dog owners! The park is quite large with agility obstacle courses and water bowls for the dogs to use. There are two sections: one for small dogs who tend to be more timid and one for any size dogs. There are also picnic tables and benches for owners to relax on.
Moshier Art Center
Art lovers of any skill level are welcome here to participate in programs in a ceramics studio. This Art Center holds programs for all ages, including classes in pottery, painting, sculpture, and sketching. Access to the studios are available to artists at any time of any day.
