DuPont, WA
DuPont, WA
The 1841 US Exploring Expedition charted and explored the area that we now know as DuPont, WA. Many of the city’s local landmarks are still known today by the names given to them by this scientific expedition. Then in 1906, the E.I. DuPont de Nemours company built an explosive manufacturing plant in the area, finally giving the home of hundreds of workers and their families a name – DuPont. The explosives produced here were used for some of the world's largest construction projects such as the Panama Canal and the Grand Coulee Dam. A large amount of munitions were also produced here for both World Wars. Today, DuPont is a rapidly growing community with over 9,000 people and 3,000 households. The city is part of the Steilacoom Historical School District, which consists of 1 high school, 1 middle school, and 4 elementary schools.
DuPont Powderworks Park
This lively park has plenty of space for visitors – there are multiple sports fields and courts where you can play soccer, softball, lacrosse, and basketball. There are 3 huge play structures for kids to enjoy and a covered picnic shelter for families to rest and enjoy meals together. There is also an off-leash dog area, a BBQ area, multiple paved paths, and a designated spot in the park for the preservation of oak trees.
McNamara's Pub and Eatery
This classic Irish pub has been a local favorite since it opened in 2009. Within its first year, McNamara’s was recognized as one of the Best New Restaurants and the Best Irish Pub in the annual Best of Western Washington competition. Some features include outstanding food, delicious beers on tap, and a cozy atmosphere. On certain nights you can even catch some live music, or just stop by to watch the game over a few drinks and appetizers.
Nisqually Community Garden
This community garden represents the Nisqually Tribe’s traditional ways of healthy living by contributing to improvements in physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional health. Food is grown and distributed here, as well as medicinal plants and body care products. Classes and workshops are also held here so that community members can build skills in growing, harvesting, and preparing their own foods and medicines.

Some exhibits include artifacts from the four eras of DuPont history: Native Americans, the Hudson Bay Company, the DuPont Company, and the Weyerhaeuser community of Northwest Landing. The Museum also displays photographs and tools used to manufacture dynamite.
