The Puget Sound

The Puget Sound is both a region within Washington state and the name of the huge body of water located in it. The Sound is an appendage of the Pacific Ocean and stretches about 50 miles into the bay towards Seattle and its neighboring cities. The scene of this complex estuary, combined with the tall and condensed evergreen forests, has created some of the most gorgeous and lively seaside communities in the country.

The Puget Sound Lowlands is the stretch of land lying between the Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountain Range and is the most populated region of Washington. Some of the largest cities in the state such as Seattle and Tacoma reside here, as well as some very well-known companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing.

The climate in the Puget Sound Lowlands varies all around, with warm summers and freezing winters. But you can be sure of one thing – there’s always a chance for rain, no matter what time of year it may be. Because of the climate here, activities like camping, fishing, and hiking are very popular.

This region is known for its gorgeous coastlines, busy city scenes, and fertile farmlands. Some Puget Sound Islands that are popular and have beautiful beaches with amazing views include the San Juan Islands and Whidbey island. Anywhere you travel within this region you are guaranteed to come across some type of wildlife ranging from deer and elk to whales and orcas!
